In the spirit of self-care, here are 5 simple ways to nourish your body and soul!
- Clean & Declutter Your Surroundings
As Marie Kando would say, if it doesn’t bring you joy, thank it and send it on its way! Did you know that living or working in a dirty and cluttered environment can actually negatively affect your mood? Take a few moments each day to tidy up, and see how much happier and more productive it makes you feel!
- Cook Yourself a Hearty Meal
Nutritionist and Health Coach, Heidi Farmer of FarmGirl Health has a knack for creating the tastiest and healthiest recipes. Since we’re still in the thick of “Houston Winter,” we asked her to share her favorite body and soul warming dish.
According to Heidi, there’s not many things that nourish the body and soul as much as a big, thick warm bowl of homemade chili on a cold winter day – and this recipe is SO quick and easy. The best part is that although it contains no meat, it will fool any carnivore into loving it.
What better accompaniment for chili than a slice of fresh baked bread straight from the oven. Not your typical labor intensive knead and rise bread, Heidi’s gluten free and paleo bread is ready in just 35 minutes! The best part is you just throw all of the ingredients into a blender then bake and enjoy. You don’t have to work hard to nourish your body and soul, just find a good recipe or two!
- Go Out for Some Fresh Air
Researchers at UC Berkeley say that spending time in nature reduces stress and anxiety and increases our mental capacity and creativity! Plus, if you head outdoors when it’s sunny out, you’ll also absorb Vitamin D, which has proven benefits such as weight loss, increased happiness, and decreased risk for illness.
- Nourish Your Skin
DIY spa day, anyone? A consistent 5-10 minute skincare routine at the end of the day will not only help you wind down, but will also improve your complexion and add much needed moisture to your skin. Consider an at home-face mask and a full body moisturizing session before bed for full relaxation. You could even turn on an essential oil diffuser for the full spa day effect 😉
- Get a Good Night’s Sleep
1 in 3 adults don’t get enough sleep. Sleep is essential for optimal health and well-being. You should aim to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night. If you’re struggling to do so, try cutting out caffeine after noon, turning off your phone or other electronics approximately 2 hours before bedtime, and committing to a consistent sleep schedule.
We hope these tips leave you feeling nourished and refreshed!
Best,
